Panelists

Rav Singh is an urban farmer and runs a food and climate justice organization called Shade of Miti. She is helping to create inclusive and just spaces and resources for youth, newcomers and first-generation settlers in the agriculture, environmental and food movements. She has been involved in youth food policy work at a municipal, regional and federal level. Rav graduated from the University of Guelph in 2016 and has since been supporting communities who are marginalized in their food sovereignty movements.

Lauren Bannerman-Maxwell is in their last year at Dalhousie University, graduating with a Marine Biology degree with a double minor in Philosophy and Ocean Sciences. She is a PADI certified staff instructor and has created a variety of marine conservation focused scuba courses. Prior to COVID she was starting an organization called ecowarriors in which people from all over Canada would study marine conservation through scuba diving in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Her main focus of marine conservation involves sustainable fishing practices in small communities in Costa Rica. Lauren’s goal is to work in partnership with community members to create sustainability protocols that acknowledge community and ecosystem needs.

Elaina Cox currently studies as a student at the University of Guelph attending her final year of her Bachelor in Honours Environmental Governance and a double minor in Honours Political Science and Geographic Information System and Environmental Analysis. Following this degree she will be attending Waterloo for a Masters Degree in Sustainability Management and a thesis in Indigenous-related conservation. She is involved in volunteering efforts regarding Indigenous rights, LGBTQ+ and the environment, including working with well-known groups such as the Waterloo Youth Advisory Council, Ontario Nature and The Climate Reality Project. She also works with TD Insurance on the UNEP FI disclosures and Sustainable Development Goals. Elaina's future involves promoting Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas to ensure sustainability in Canada and reaching national and international targets. Elaina has a passion and drive to support all volunteering platforms/work opportunities that come her way.


Faciliator

Nidhi is a 2nd-year undergraduate student at the University of Guelph pursuing a degree in Environmental Economics and Policy. Nidhi is an International student and calls Dubai her home. During her time here in Canada, Nidhi has become heavily involved in the University of Guelph community. She volunteers with numerous organizations and currently is one of the Sustainability Ambassador Coordinators at the University of Guelph's Sustainability Office, where she assists students in developing and leading action-oriented projects. Nidhi is also the co-founder of her own podcast called Crisis Unfolded, which seeks to raise awareness on pressing environmental issues. Nidhi's passions lie within the integration of economics and law in the environmental industry, and she is interested in learning how we can initiate and maintain sustainability in various organizations. Outside of volunteerism and her academics, Nidhi is an avid writer, reader and loves spending time in nature on walks.
