On Saturday September 23, 2017 the City of Guelph responded to the notably inappropriate behaviour witnessed over Homecoming Weekend. The Central Student Association (CSA) would like to acknowledge that the inappropriate behaviour is not consistent with the University of Guelph or the Central Student Association's values. Much of the behaviour seen on Homecoming weekend, more specifically Saturday September 22nd, put student's and community member's safety at risk, and demonstrated a disrespect for each other, our fellow neighbours, and the land that we reside. The CSA would like to acknowledge the neighbourhoods and residents who experienced these behaviours, and our deepest gratitude for those who took it upon themselves to assist in ensuring the safety of neighbours and students, and cleanliness of the city. We'd like to thank the majority of students who remain respectful, and took it upon themselves look out for the safety of their peers as well. While the CSA has not been involved in the planning or promotion of Homecoming for some time now, we have seen that these events demonstrate the need for a multi-faceted approach in preventing these sort of behaviours from occurring in the future, and are committed to having a role in that. The CSA is in touch with University of Guelph Administration, and will be at the table for these discussions. The CSA hopes that this can serve as a reminder to students that we can still have fun, while being good neighbours during the time that Guelph is our home.
