These Contest Terms & Conditions (“Rules”) govern all contests, giveaways, and promotions (each, a “Contest”) administered by The University of Guelph Central Student Association (hereinafter the “CSA”), located at 50 Stone Road East, University Centre Room 274, Guelph, ON N1G 2W1.
By entering a Contest, you agree to be legally bound by these Rules.
1. No Purchase Necessary
No purchase is necessary to enter or win. A purchase does not increase the chances of winning.
2. Contest Announcements
Details of each Contest, including prize(s), method of entry, and opening/closing dates, will be communicated in the official CSA announcement (e.g., newsletter, social media post, or website). That announcement is incorporated by reference into these Rules.
3. Eligibility
Contests are open only to individuals who, at the time of entry:
- Are currently enrolled undergraduate students at the University of Guelph;
- Have paid their CSA membership fee for the current semester;
- Are legal residents of Ontario; and
- Are at least 13 years of age.
The following individuals are not eligible: CSA employees, executives, directors, board members, and members of their immediate household.
Contests are void outside Ontario and where prohibited by law.
4. Agreement to be Bound
By entering, each participant confirms that they have read, understood, and agree to abide by these Rules and the official Contest announcement. Decisions of the CSA are final and binding.
5. How to Enter
To enter, follow the instructions provided in the official Contest announcement.
- Limit: One (1) entry per person per Contest, regardless of entry method.
- Free Entry Option: Entrants may also enter by emailing [email protected] with the subject line “ENTRY” and including their full name and student number. This method offers an equal chance of winning.
- Prohibited Conduct: Use of multiple identities, automated systems, bots, macros, or any attempt to circumvent the entry process will result in disqualification.
Incomplete, late, lost, misdirected, or incompatible entries are void.
6. Verification
All entries are subject to verification by the CSA. The CSA may, in its sole discretion, require proof of identity, age, student status, and/or eligibility (e.g., valid government ID or University of Guelph student card). Failure to provide satisfactory proof within the timeline specified may result in disqualification.
7. Prizes
Details of the prize(s) available will be specified in the official Contest announcement.
- Prizes must be accepted as awarded, are non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged or redeemed for cash, unless determined otherwise at CSA’s sole discretion.
- CSA reserves the right to substitute a prize or any component thereof with one of equal or greater value.
- Winners are responsible for any costs, fees, or taxes associated with claiming or using the prize.
8. Odds of Winning
The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received. Each eligible entry has an equal chance of winning.
9. Winner Selection
Winners will be chosen by random draw or other method described in the official Contest announcement. The selection method will be conducted fairly and transparently under CSA supervision.
10. Winner Notification
CSA will attempt to contact winners using the contact information provided at entry within five (5) business days of selection.
- If a winner cannot be reached, does not respond, or fails to meet eligibility requirements, they may forfeit their prize.
- Winners must claim their prize within 30 days of notification. Unclaimed prizes will be forfeited.
11. Skill-Testing Question
To comply with Canadian law, each selected winner must correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question without mechanical or other aid. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
12. Publicity
By entering, participants consent to CSA’s use of their name, likeness, statements, and entry for promotional purposes in any media, without compensation, unless prohibited by law.
13. Privacy
Personal information collected will be used solely for the purposes of administering the Contest, contacting winners, and promoting CSA programs and services. Information will not be sold or disclosed except as required to administer the Contest or as required by law.

- Entries must be original and must not violate any law or third-party rights.
- Entries may not contain offensive, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate material, as determined by CSA in its sole discretion.
- By submitting content, entrants grant CSA a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display the content for promotional purposes.
15. Limitation of Liability
By participating, entrants agree to release and hold harmless the CSA, its affiliates, partners, and agents from any liability, injury, loss, or damage arising from participation in the Contest or acceptance/use of a prize.
CSA is not responsible for:
- Technical malfunctions, website failures, or platform outages;
- Lost, misdirected, or delayed entries;
- Errors in prize announcements or administration; or
- Any incorrect or inaccurate information provided by entrants.
16. General Conditions
CSA reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, suspend, or modify a Contest or these Rules if:
- Fraud, technical failures, or other causes beyond its control compromise the integrity of the Contest; or
- CSA otherwise determines that the Contest cannot be conducted as intended.
Any attempt to deliberately undermine a Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil laws. CSA reserves the right to seek remedies to the fullest extent permitted by law.
17. Disputes
Contests are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively by the courts of Ontario.
